1997 Volkswagen Golf Engine cuts off

HI My VW golf III..engine cuts off whilst idling at traffic lights. Engine temp is normal and not cold. This doesnt happen very often but it does it some time. Especially when the air con is turned up.

any guesses ?? much appreciated

Hi ad1329,

The idling speed is either too low or the AC idling compensator is not adjusted/working properly.

Clean up the throttle body with carb cleaners to see if it helps.
