I thought the pan was leaking but after wiping clean I found that the leak was coming from the housing that holds the oil filter. The leak is not at the filter but at the flat part to the block. How do you get that off to put a new gasket in.

I also have a brake question. Very little pedal. The fluid was low but I show no sign of leakage. Could be air in the system. If so how to bleed it.

The first question is more important to me than the first.

From the best I can tell it looks like that the center of the threads that hold the filter is hexed inside. So you use a hex socket and remove that and remove the filter adapter. If you can include a pic of the adapter and I will look it over it that don't look like its correct.
As for the brakes I would first bleed. You do that with someone else helping. Have someone pump the pedal get pressure and then you go to the right rear loosen the bleeder screw and the pedal will go to the floor have them hold it there and retighten the bleeder and then have them pump it again and repeat. Now do this at each wheel. If there is air it will push air bubbles bleed that wheel till there is only fluid coming out before going to the next. If this don't help then check the brakes to make sure they aren't worn. Get back to me with how things go.

a picture follows. fromt the bottom looking up. the two silver bolts are the hex that hold it on to the block. Problem is that the filter housing itself blocks these hex nuts. the next picture is looking down. Hard to see in this one.

I don't see any pics. Use the upload button below then when the next window opens use the browse and then select pic and then follow instructions from there and it should upload to here. If you can't get it to work then let me know and I will include my email for you to send to instead. Get back to me.
