2000 Volkswagen Beetle timing

Both 2.0L SOHC and 1.8T motors are interference engine applications. If the timing belt breaks while the engine is running, then YES, you will need to remove the head and check for bent valves, to the very least.

the timing belt didn't break the car just stalled out while at a stop light i was at at full stop when it stalled on me and then later i pulled the timing belt out it had teeth missing it was making a noise like a slopy valve for a week before this happened

Then you are OK. The valves are fine. But you still need to remove the valve cover and check the lifters. Make sure that you replace the timing tensioner and the water pump.

now after all that i tried to start it several times will that hurt anything? When i would try to it made a sound like a zip toy

For as long as the timing belt is in place, you are fine. I am not sure what a zip toy is, I have no idea what it sounds like. But you did say the engine was making "sloppy valve" noise, your timing belt may have jumped a tooth or two, to begin with. Did you install the new timing belt at the correct timing mark?

i haven't gotten a chance to put the new timing belt on cause i don't have nothing to jack up the engine with(do i need to) and is it easy i never did any type of work on a car like this before but i am very mechanically sound

You do need to jack up the engine right before you remove the engine mount. If you have never done a timing belt before, I strongly suggest that you find a repair manual before you tear the side of the motor apart. I have done many timing belts on Asian imports but never on a VW. I am sure it will different, but I don't believe it will be more more difficult than any other models.

thanks for all of your input and advice i think i'll take it to a mechanic and let them do it cause there is alot of parts that have to be removed and i don't have a garage to do it in i don't want to do it in the street.

Good idea. It is not "on-the-street" kind of thing to do.
