Shakes or Wobbles problem
1999 Volkswagen Beetle 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 99 beetle with a shimmy. Its starts at around 40 and continues thru 60 and at times can be felt in the floor of the vehicle. We have had the front tires balanced and just heard what may be a clicking the other day. I was wondering if this is an alignment problem ie excessive toe in or if i should start to locate parts to change a CV joint. We replaced a tire in the rear with a nail in it and the tires in the rear havent been balanced yet but i dont think that the rear balance would affect the kinda of wheel shimmy i have. We cannot feel the vibration in the steering wheel. The steering is sound. Its only on the right side and usually around 40 mph. Any help would be appreciated...

You should definitely balance the rear wheels before going any further.

There is a chance that there is an axle/cv problem, but it's best take care of the simple problems first. The rear wheel balance can definitely cause shimmy in the entire car.
