1979 Volkswagen Beetle 80,000 miles

MY HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT DIM. THE LEVER ON THE STEERING COLUMN SPRINGS BACK WITHOUT STAYING IN THE HIGHBEAM POSITION AS WELL. THE LIGHTS COME ON BUT WILL NOT DIM. DO I NEED A RELAY SWITCH OR A SIMMER SWITCH?

ALSO THE OIL LIGHT HAS COME ON. THE OIL PAN WAS TIGHTENED RECENTLY COULD THAT EFFECT THE PRESSURE? THE CAR WAS JUST PURCHASED AND SEEMED FINE WHEN WE BOUGHT IT. BUT THE GUY TIGHTENED THE OIL PAN HE SAID TO MAKE SURE THERE WERE NO LEAKS.

With the headlights not dimming the problem is in the dimmer switch. With reference to the oil light comming on check the wiring going to the sending unit on the engine . It could be loose or has fallen off or a bad connection.
