This is a complete engine removal, teardown and rebuild. For a broken rod, there's likely other damage. It's possible for a DIY with proper tools, equipment, know-how and time. Have heads reconditioned, check crank, camshaft, pistons and remaining rods for damage and wear. Check case for wear. Observe main and rod bearing tolerances with plastigage and have machine shop grind to over/undersize and align-bore case as necessary.
