I have a dtc code: 001f: Vehicle speed sensor, signal missing.

I would like to check the electrical connector for dirty prongs and/or replace the sensor.

Not sure how to get to the sensor. Have to remove some air hoses, I think.

Can you show me how to remove the parts so that I am able to work on the sensor? Then how to remove the sensor?

Thank you.

What control module did you get that code from? Also did the speedometer stop working when the fault is present?

I don't know what control module it was, as I went to a transmission mechanic and they did a complete scan on the car and showed me the code. The speedometer is not affected. I get a flashing yellow "up-arrow" on the instrument panel.

Hey Tabletalk,

The transmission speed signal is transmitted by a sensor on the transmission. The transmission control module (TCM) uses the signal to determine the input shaft speed after the torque converter. This signal is used to compare the transmission speed and vehicle speed. The transmission control module (TCM) uses this comparison to calculate gear-shift timing. Engine speed (RPM) and vehicle speed data affects the adjustment of system pressure, lock-up function control and engine torque reduction. The result is smooth gear-shifting. The control module calculates and compares the transmission speed, engine speed (RPM) and speed at the transmission. Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) TCM-0023 is stored if the control module registers that the speed (RPM) signal is missing.

Here is a picture of what it looks like.

Please let us know happens so it will help others.

Sorry for the delayed response, but only a few repair shops know much about this part. A transmission shop wants over $400 to replace this part, so I would still like to do the job myself. Getting to the part is the problem right now: looks like I need to take out the air cleaner and the base it is attached to, just to be able to remove the wiring harness. I'd like to check for corroded ends and clean them first before I buy a part. It may have a dirty connection, and problem would be solved. I'll get back to you if I make some progress. Thanks for your reply. Bob

I have ordered the part and will install it myself, or see if my local mechanic will do it. If you have a video or written steps to take to undo the hoses and air filter and base of air filter, I'd appreciate it. I think I just remove a couple of torx screws to get the sensor out and then install the new one. I'll let you know what happens. Bob

Sorry responding so late. The speed sensor is on top of the transmission. Remove the plastic hose at the air cleaner. The plastic is going to be hard so warm it up using a heat gun just to soften it. To install you will need to do the same.

Once the hose is off the sensor will be on top of transmission. There are 2. Attached image location. Verify it is the correct one by wire color. Wire colors will be green with brown stripe and the other green with ahite stripe. That will be the sensor to replace.

Let us know how it goes and good luck.

Mechanic installed the sensor today. So far no problems. I'll let you know if the flashing up-arrow comes back on the dashboard. Thanks for advice! Bob
