Electrical problem
2006 Vauxhall Signum Front Wheel Drive Manual 50000 miles

I took the car out this evening for a trip of just over a mile, just before I reached my destination the battery light came on. When I returned home the light came on again and stayed on. I have looked at the hand book and it says the battery is not charging properly.
We had this problem last August and I called the RAC out who checked the alternator and discovered it was not charging the battery. We had to have a new altenator.
Since having this fitted we have done about 10000 miles, should the altenator last more than a year?
We don't have a volt meter at home to check the output so I will call out the RAC tomorrow to check it, but my concern is that we may need a new altenator.
