Electrical problem

i have a vauxhall meriva 1.6 16v 2003. a week ago the oil light came on for a short time and then went off again. then yesterday on a long journey, the light came on again. i checked the oil level and everything was fine but i topped it up a little anyway; which worked as the oil light didnt come back on for the rest of the journey. i just wanted to know what could be the problem, because like i said, id checked the oil and that was ok. do you think it could be anything electrical, the oil burning or just a faulty bulb?
