1997 Vauxhall Astra car dead, when turning key no sound not

Engine problem
1997 Vauxhall Astra V8 Wheel Drive Type unknown Manual 98.000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I got in the car this morning, turned the key engine started up straight away.
Remembered something I'd left in the house so turned off engine went back in doors .
came straight back out got in car turned key.
totally dead symbols all light up on dash but no sound not even a click
why? when 2 mins earlier started up first time

These things are sent to annoy us.

There must be a faulty connection at the battery. for every thing to go down like that one would think that the battery terminal was disconnected. Start there, make sure that the battery terminals are clean and tight, check that there is water in the battery, and check main engine fuse and ecu fuse if fitted.

The battery maybe faulty and had enough surface charge left for one last start, but you would expect a glimmer at least if it crashed.
