Engine Performance problem
1993 Vauxhall Astra 4 cyl Manual 147000 miles
hi guys,
im a novice who's pulling hair out! 2 weeks ago my 1.4 astra overheated so I fitted a new thermostat. I had to remove the cam belt housing to access it and didnt realise at the time that I had timing out when I put it all back together. Tried to start it but lost power when clutch was released. I have since reset the timing, put a new dist cap on, checked HT leads and plugs, leads are connected as follows 1 3 4 2

When I try to start it she wont tick over and after a few seconds I get a Whump! sound in the airbox that holds the air filter?! I think I will break my foot soon through kicking the car! any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers
