I was told by my mechanic that my valve cover was leaking on my 04 Santa Fe. He said that the oil was leaking down the back of the engine and as a result it ruined my ignition coil cause the car to shake or chug if you will. He said I did not see any oil leaking on the ground because the splash panel caught the oil. He also said that the harmonic balancer was bad, that it had worn out and it was wobbling and also needed to be replaced. He said it was metal and rubber and the rubber was deteriorating. He said the balancer would cost $205, the valve cover parts would be $129 and the coil would be $105 for a total of $429 for parts and labor and tax would be $373. Is the problem he said I am having possible and is the price he is charging in line? I realize there will be a markup on parts but I want to be sure. I am also concerned because I thought the coil was covered so it would not be able to get ruined by on oil leak.
