Update on EBCM Replacement dtc c0131

Ok, after replacing the front left caliper and hose I replaced the ECBM. The problem front left brake caliper locking up. Just normal driving the brake would start locking up. why the replacement of parts. So, today the 17th of Sept had the EBCM Programmed. Took for test drive all seemed fine drove for about 35 minutes, got to destination and brake locked up. Now, no engine light, Tract Control, Stability Control or ABS Lights come on. Took to garage had codes read no ABS Tract or Stability codes.

Any Ideas???? I have put over $500 in parts to try and fix this... I have asked my friends that work or have worked for GM as Mechanics and all seemed to point to the EBCM that is why I finally replaced it.

Did you only replace the ebcm or did you also replace the brake pressure modulator valve as well?

dont overlook the brake hose... if its collapsed, it will give the same symptoms of a bad caliper....

The Caliper and the hose were the first things I replaced when the problem first started.

saturntech,

yes the same caliper locks up and no did not change the brake pressure modulator valve. most everyone I talked to said the ECBM was at fault.

Sounds like the codes gone so the ebcm was bad then.As far as the caliper locking up if you crack the bleeder the caliper releases?You might have a bad master cylinder.Without a pressure gauge its hard to tell for sure.

Could it only affect the one caliper? I would think it would affect the left front and the right rear if was the Master Cylinder.

A friend of my wife who is a mechanic suggested the maybe something is heating up and causing the issue. I have checked the Slides and all and as many times as I have had to crack the bleeder wouldn't think there would be any water in the system... I have also checked the bearing and it feels tight and I don't hear and noise out of it, but if it was the bearing and heating up the rotor in turn heating the brakes cause them to lock up, I ask because my wife mentioned and I didn't think about it, but it didn't lock up to after a 35 minute drive and then we were in stop and go traffic which heated up the brakes.

I just looked there are only two ports on the master cylinder so two wheels would lock.So is the brake locking because of trapped pressure not releasing when you let off the brake pedal?Or does the caliper stop freely slide back and fourth?

The caliper slides freely checked it 3 or 4 times. Not sure about trapped pressure, but all seems to work properly, for a while at least... Anyway, had enough of it, took to gm dealer to try and figure it out and let me know before doing any work... Will advise of there findings as soon as I get fixed...

Ok, well finally found the problem... Besides the EBCM being bad one thing I thought of but didn't seem likely was the Master Cylinder... well it was it was leaking fluid into the Power Brake Booster so now the Brake Booster and the Master Cylinder need to be replaced at a cost of another $400+

So, if anyone else has this problem with brakes locking up have them pull up on the brake pedal to see if it releases the brakes if it does have them take loose the master cylinder and look inside the booster for brake fluid... if fluid is there then they will need to replace them both...

The front gets more pressure then the rear so that makes sense thank you for sharing that with us.
