Unknown faint tick?

Manual trans a/ auto shift.
Faint ticking noise from the front end. Only when the car is in gear and moving. Not at idle. Not upon start. Ticking speed increases as speed increases but volume does not. No change when turning. Ticking pauses a second when the gear shifts. RPM's and gear shift is smooth without additional noise.
Regular oil changes, filter changes. Well maintained. The last oil change was about 3 weeks ago along with tire rotation and full inspection. New brake pads about 2 months ago.
Mechanics can't find anything because it doesn't happen when idling two cams could use a little adjusting.
I noticed it about a week ago. It's driving me crazy.

As I stated the tick-tick-tick is very faint. You have to strain to hear it. It may have been there for quite some time, and I am just now noticing it because of the mileage I am listening more intently. The car runs great. I would just like to know what to have my mechanic check. Maybe narrow it down to a few items.

Hi,

First, I'm sorry for the late reply. For some reason, your question was in the "answered" section.

If the noise is extremely faint, it could be related to a CV joint starting to wear. I realize you mentioned there was no change when turning the wheel, but it is possible.

Also, since you mentioned the sound increases with speed, that limits what it could be. I would recommend starting with the CV joints and front wheel bearings. Also, make sure there is nothing that touches the axles or brakes/rotor.

In this case, we may need to wait until it gets a little louder to locate it.

Thanks. I think it may be transmission related. It's a DPS6. Car has 91,000 miles.
Ticking pauses slightly when gears shift up but not down and no ticking when at idle or coasting.
Could it be just a noisy transmission?
Plus, it is very faint.

I'm so sorry, but I can't hear a ticking. If it's faint, it may have been lost in the transfer of info. Are you able to hear it on the device you used to record it?

Discovered the issue. Bad water pump and timing belt. Replaced both along with the serpentine belt. Problem solved.
