I wish to mount a strong magnet securely to this lower panel on my truck but I can’t find anything online regarding this subject for newer model’s. I’d like to use a plate or washers with small bolts but this requires removing the panel, and I don’t want to break it as they cost $170.00 or more just for the part. The 3M double-faced adhesive that came with the magnet is not strong enough. I cleaned the surfaces with IPA then with the 3M adhesive promoter to no avail.

Thanks,
Jim

If you mean this panel it has a bunch of clips that hold it in place at the sides of the column and down the edges with a couple more at the lower edge.

That’s it! Any tips about detaching it from those clips?

Thank you.

Try to pull straight out evenly to release them, if you try pulling at an off angle they can snap off. The only other advice is to be gentle, most of the newer plastic is about the strength of a cracked egg shell. I try to pop them free at the top then down each side. If you can use a mirror or get your head under the area you can sometimes make it easier if you use pliers to squeeze the clips in so they come free easier.
