I am able to connect my phone to bluetooth and hear music through the car stereo no problem. Problem is, can't hear on phone calls. The call is placed and connected but neither party can hear each other. Only a slight sound of very "jarbled" sounds.

Hello, have you tried a different phone? A lot of times the Bluetooth version is different and some are not able to connect for all functions. I've had this same problem before. Most times it's the Bluetooth version that's not up to date.

There may be a software update for the Bluetooth that needs to be done. The car is 8 years old, so that's probably an outdated version compared to your iPhones.

I will update when I get home from work tonight and let you know. I have downloaded 2 updates, but have not yet installed them. I found them on either the U-connect website or Dodge website. I don't recall reading if they fix a phone problem... I recall reading that they update Nav and radio... Are you aware of an update site I could double check with?

Also, I am curious on the "hardware" locations of all related components. Do you know where the microphone is located in a 2012 Dodge Journey? Do you know if replacing the telematics module will/ or may fix the problem? Thoughts?

I don't think the software updates will fix the problem. They are dated 2014 and 2015...

The mic for the UConnect is in the rear view mirror, but as you cannot hear either direction I doubt it's the mic. I would find an older non-iPhone and try it, if it works then it is more likely a Bluetooth issue. The updates may help if your car has not been updated.
The telematics module is basically the CD or CD/DVD/SR reader unit behind the bottom of the center stack.
That you can hear music over the connection suggests it likely isn't a hardware issue though. More likely a protocol issue in the blue tooth versions.

Update: I took the car to the dealership for their diagnosis, about 2 weeks ago. After spending lots of money, got next to nowhere further. In the meantime I discovered that there is a "telematics module" separate from the radio that handles the Bluetooth connectivity. I decided to experiment and replace this module with one from a salvage vehicle. Salvage guy informed me that his has a different part number. I researched to discover that the salvage part number is the new replacement part number to my module. I decided to buy it and install it. The Bluetooth works great now!!

Where was it located? They don't show an individual module only for BT.

Module is located under dash, above brake pedal.
