My vehicle has been accelerating/revving up while I’m driving on the highway. This has been happening on and off for a few weeks. Today, however, was scary. I was stopped at a stop sign, across the street from an elementary school. The crossing guard had just crossed a handful of kids. My car revved up and varroom! I took my foot of the brake, and zoomed through the intersection. This is not safe!

Took car to dealership. They ran a diagnostic, and surprise! No code. “Nothing is wrong.”
I asked if they could keep the car and drive it more to try to find the cause. They agreed. for one day.

I do not feel safe driving my car!! Suggestions?

Thanks,
Theresa

This clearly is a serious concern so while taking it to the dealer is important, it is even more important that you call the OEM directly. I would put a call into the customer support line even if to just document what it happening. The dealer is going to only take action if they can find something with this because it is a serious potential defect so they are not going to guess. So it is not surprising that is how your visit went with the dealer.

However, the OEM may get more involved just to make sure there is no emerging issue with the vehicles.

As for what the issue could be, we need to have them monitor the Accelerator position sensor while this is happening. That will tell us if there is a possible pedal issue. It could just be sticking or there could be a sensor issue.
