Service engine soon light is on

MyCarly and my phone app tells me the I have one engine code: dmtl control, short circuit to positive. I replaced the dmtl pump but the code comes back. I looked for any suspect wiring where the harness goes behind the right rear wheel well liner, but it all looked fine. Any other place to check? Trying to avoid the dealer. Car runs perfectly with no other codes.

Most times there is a short to power, it is at one of the connectors. That is what I would suggest checking.

I attached a schematic of the system. Also, here is a link that shows how to test wiring. I'm adding it in case you need it.

Hello, thanks for answering. The exact message in the MyCarly diagnostics report, under Motor Control, is Fault Code: 003225, Fault Explanation: DMTL leak diagnosis pump control: short circuit to positive. I also thought it might be a connector, and re-seated the connector to the new DMTL pump. From the pump connector the wiring harness seem to go behind the wheel well then disappear up into the car. Do you know where the other connectors are that are worth checking? What can cause a connector to go bad, getting water in there? I live in West Texas where it rarely rains and I have had this issue for a few months now. Thanks for the help. Tom

Honestly, since there is a short to power, what you need I suggest is to disconnect the plug and determine if one of the wires, other than the one that should have power.

The wiring runs through the vehicle and it doesn't happen often, but if something rubs it long enough, the insulation can be damaged allowing the short.

This is where I am getting confused. The code you provided is an EVAP code which is used to indicate a leak and not a short. What I think you should do is disconnect wiring to the DMTL and reinspect the connectors to make sure nothing has crossed. If everything looks good, then you need to check the pins for power. specifically the ones that shouldn't have power.
