Hi:
I would like to say it is related to the dangling release cable, but that is a mechanical device. Turning the key on shouldn't actuate it.
However, since this is a new finding, I would recommend checking into it. I say that because if the cable or release is damaged, the deck lid may not be properly latched. I tried to find the specifics on the emergency release without success, but I would like to help.
If it is possible, close the trunk and confirm it is fully seated and not able to be opened by hand. If it is, please send pictures of the handle so we can see exactly what you are referring to. We should be able to further direct you at that point.
