transfer case replacement instructions please?

Please help.. One day driving down the highway heard a loud scraping sound and all of sudden the truck would not stay in gear.. I have changed fluid, filter, shift solenoid, neutral safety switch, new shift cable. when i pulled my pan off there was a big shard of metal in the pan... The parking pawl had broken off... So i replaced that as well... I pull off the valve body and cleaned everything really good and at first it wanted to go in gear then nothing. Except only in 4 wheel low then it drives fine except you can't drive it to well in 4 wheel low on dry pavement.
I also replaced the actuator... Also only replaced one of the shift solenoids.. If anyone could help id truly appreciate it.

Okay, this sounds like you have a failed transfer case. In 2 wheel drive there is a failure in the case, not transferring power to the wheels.

Roy

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lift Points.
2. Remove the transfer case shield. Refer to Shield Replacement.
3. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement-Two-Piece in Propeller Shaft.
4. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (System Balanced Assembly) in Propeller Shaft.
5. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.

6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the transfer case.

7. Remove the transfer case motor/Encoder.
Support the transfer case with a jack.

8. Remove the bolts securing the transfer case to the transmission adapter.
9. Remove the gasket.

I didn't think my transmission had an encoder motor? I could not find it on it. Because i had bought one but i thought since my 4 wheel drive is manual shift that it did not have an encoder motor.

The transfer case has the encoder motor, not the transmission.

This is not a transmission issue, it is a transfer case issue.

Well Roy that's good news that it is not the transmission.. It's bad news since the transfer case is the one thing i have yet to dig in to on my ole girl... But i can see what you are saying.. That is what i will tear into now. Thank you again for all your help. Will definitely be keeping you posted on what i find.
