Truck will not turn over

Silverado 2500HD Duramax. It will not turn over. Checked all the ignition fuses which are good. Pulled the Defrost 30A Relay and put it in both the ignition and starter relay's but no result. Changed out the starter in July of 1999. Did notice oil was getting on the starter electrical so put a shield to protect it. Have not at this time assessed the starter under the truck. Seems it is either that or the ignition switch.

Good morning,

I attached a wiring diagram for you of the starting system.

You will need a test light or voltmeter to some testing at the relay.

You need constant 12 at one terminal with the key on. Then another terminal should be hot when you turn the key to the start position.

Thanks! I just noticed that no beep when I press tab on key to lock or unlock. It does lock or unlock truck but no beep sound.

Just tested the relay itself. Due to time constraint I have had it towed to a garage. Hopefully they will find the problem and fix it. Thank you so much for your help! God Bless you and your family.

This is really embarrassing. Had the truck towed to a garage and they determined I needed 2 new batteries! I had checked the voltage and both showed 12 volts! At least I am back on the road.

No worries. 12 volts is almost drained. 12.6 is what they need to be.

Mechanic told me to avoid Walmart batteries and Autozone but only put Heavy Duty from AC Delco.
