trouble with my holly carburator

During acceleration our van backfires through the carburetor. I have had nothing but troubles with this vehicle since i got it. The choke keeps fully opening up. Which makes it difficult to start or keep running most of the time.

if this is a holley two barrel, have the choke heater bent a little bit away from the spring. check for a bent push rod for the backfiring. short out each cylinder by pulling off a wire one at a time to see which cylinder it is.
