Trouble starting after running engine out of oil

Hi, I just bought this car and the previous owner stated he got an oil change and the plug fell out causing the car to drain the oil and turn off. I can turn the motor by hand, so I don’t think it’s locked, and the starter is turning but won’t turn on. Sounds like it’s winding instead of cranking when i try to turn it on. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Good morning,

Anytime that happens, there is major engine damage as a result of no oil in the system.

Can you post a video of the engine cranking?

Hey Roy, sorry it took a bit, but here’s the video and just an update I just replaced the starter and crankshaft position sensor.

Hi,

I noticed you haven't been contacted for a few days. I did listen to your video. The engine doesn't have compression. If it lost all oil, something has come apart inside.

To confirm, perform a compression test. Here is a link that explains how it's done:

Also, let me know which engine you have. Is it the 2.0 turbo, the 2.2L, or the 2.4L?

At this point, I am 99% sure there is little to no compression. However, the compression test will confirm it. I have a feeling that if the valve cover is removed, you are going to find damage to the cams and valves.

Let me know what you find.
