trouble code 34

I recently had to replace bad injector. Truck was running fine before it went bad, but since I have replaced it the truck idles erratically up and down and sometimes dies. Usually starts right back up. Also, it sputters on taking off, but once rpm's get up it smooths out. And now I have also noticed white smoke coming outta tailpipe. I did the key dance and got trouble code 34 (speed control vacuum or vent control solenoid circuit) according to Haynes book. Any ideas or clues to point me in right direction is greatly appreciated.

Look over the vacuum lines, a cracked or leaking line can cause the idle and sputter issues. The purge solenoid issue could be a pinched wire or bad connection. Could have been caused by something as simple as you hit it while changing the injector.

Steve W. as I expected, the vacuum lines are not hooked up as they should be. Some are plugged off. Which does not surprise me considering that the previous owner did not know what maintenance and upkeep meant. Do you by chance have a diagram of the vacuum lines for my make and model? I cannot seem to find one.

At least this one is not that awful. Some of the stuff in the late 1980's used more rubber under the hood than they did in the tires!

Steve W, man I just wanted to say TY for the GREAT info on my trouble codes problem. Also the diagram for vac lines.
UPDATE: Half of problems solved
Well I figured out my trouble codes problem. I couldn't figure out why I'd get the code, shut truck off. Then get different code nxt day. SOLUTION- Main wire harnesses dislodged from fender well, and fell onto exhaust manifold, partially burning and grounding out wires. Hence the sporadic codes. Repaired wires.. PROBLEM SOLVED. Again Ty guys for the info. An will DEFINITELY pass the word about the website to use if u have a car/truck problem.

Fried wiring is always fun. I've repair lot's of it over the years. It can throw more than a few wrenches into the works.
