Had clunking from transmission when shifting gears and some jerking when van shifted gears while driving. took it to shop, fluid level was good and fluid was good. guy put it on scan tool and scan said no problems. he then cleared the codes and I didn’t have any problems for about a week, now same thing is happening. I can hear clunking while shifting gears and some jerking while van is shifting gears when driving. I’m at loss and don’t know what to do.

Good morning,

You stated there were no codes but then you said he cleared the codes? What were the codes?

Clearing codes does nothing as the issue needs to be addressed.

You need another shop that will look beyond a computer and do good old fashion diagnostics.

How long since you changed the fluid and filter?

i have no idea what the codes were, he said there were a lot from the TPM and I guess something about a very small vacuum leak. he just said he reset everything then the van ran great. I have never changed the filter or fluid mostly because I've had a few people tell me it would just most likely make the problem worse. I feel it is very hard in my area to find a honest person to help me, everyone wants to change the transmission out or rebuild it, before even checking it. I was thinking of changing the filter and fluid but was worried because I don't have the proper dip stick to recheck the fluid level.

Okay, first they are wrong. It would not be wise not to change the fluid. If it is a clogged filter, then you can do more damage by ignoring it.

As far as the dipstick, you can get one at a dealer for only a few bucks.

Start with changing the fluid and filter.

Roy, what’s your take on using Seafoam transmission tech prior to changing filter and fluid?

No. Do not use it. Just change the fluid.
