I have the truck listed above 1500. Just installed a new 46RE transmission and stand alone transmission cooler yesterday. Flushed lines before installing. Started the truck and idled to warm up so fluid levels could be checked. 15-20 minutes o/d off light come on. After about 10 more minutes the transmission temperature light came on. Checked the flow in and out of the cooler. Fluid was still cool, not really even warm yet, but temperature light came on. What could be causing this?

Hi,

What code are you actually getting? Let me know that. Also, is the transmission new or is it used?

The transmission temperature sensor is mounted in the transmission solenoid assembly. It the trans was used, it may be bad. See pic 1 below for sensor location.

Let me know. Also, let me know the code you are getting so I can look up exactly what it is related to and what could be causing it.

Take care,

Joe

New remanufactured. Truck runs at idle in park or neutral approximately 10 minutes o/d light comes on flowed by transmission temperature light 5 minutes later. The fluid is barley warm in the stick and cooler lines are just barely warm.

Hi,

The code is related to the governor pressure sensor. Do you have a different code related to temperature?

If you look below, I included the diagnostics for the pressure sensor. Since the transmission was just replaced, I would start by checking the connections at the transmission. There could be a resistance issue in the connector. Or the overhauler installed a faulty sensor or there is a mechanical issue within the valve body. Basically, the pressure sensor is sensing more than 3 psi when it should be 0.

Take a look through the diagnostics below.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Note: At this point, I would contact the remanufacturer to see what they tell you.
