transmission stuck in gear?

i was out driving and stopped at a light i was in 4th gear. The light changed and i went to put it in first gear and it wouldn't move. the shifter is a 6-speed standard. when i let out on the clutch the car moved so i was able to get it home, but the shifter moves now but its still in the same gear thinking its 4th. any ideas this is another hard to find parts for car. thank you

There is a shifter rod assembly that has broken, or it has come loose. You will need to raise the car up it inspect here are diagrams of what I am talking about and so you can see how the transmission works so you can check it out. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
