Transmission replacement instructions please?

Can someone tell me where I can find something that will show me how to remove a transmission? I have a 1987 Toyota 4X4 pickup Thanks

Here are some guides that will help with removal of a transmission. While the bolts are going to be in different locations the steps are all about the same.

These will come in handy because the instructions from the manual are not very detailed. They give the steps but not much more help. So looking at these guides will give a better idea how to do certain things because removing an exhaust is pretty standard.

NOTE: For the transmission with a transfer (4WD) refer to REMOVAL OF TRANSFER.

1. DISCONNECT BATTERY CABLE FROM NEGATIVE TERMINAL
2. REMOVE STARTER UPPER MOUNTING NUT

3. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER FROM INSIDE OF VEHICLE
4. (RI5O)
REMOVE SHIFT LEVER RETAINER
5. RAISE VEHICLE AND DRAIN TRANSMISSION OIL

CAUTION: Be sure the vehicle is securely supported.

6. DISCONNECT PROPELLER SHAFT
SST 09325-20010

7. DISCONNECT SPEEDOMETER CABLE AND BACK-UP LIGHT SWITCH CONNECTOR
8. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE CLAMP AND EXHAUST PIPE

9. REMOVE CLUTCH RELEASE CYLINDER, TUBE BRACKET AND STARTER LOWER MOUNTING BOLT
Remove the mounting bolts and lay the starter and release cylinder alongside the engine.

10. REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING AND BRACKET
(a)Remove the four bolts from the engine rear mounting.
(b)Raise the transmission slightly by raising the engine with a jack.
(c)Remove the four bolts from the support member and remove the rear mounting bracket.

(d)Remove the engine rear mounting from the transmission.

11. PLACE PIECE OF WOOD BETWEEN ENGINE OIL PAN AND FRONT CROSSMEMBER

NOTE: Tape a piece of wood or such about 20 mm (0.79 in.) thick on the front crossmember.

12. LOWER TRANSMISSION

13. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE BRACKET AND STIFFENER PLATE BOLTS
14. REMOVE REMAINING TRANSMISSION BOLTS
15. REMOVE TRANSMISSION
(a)Draw out the transmission toward the rear.
(b)Lower the transmission front and remove the transmission from the vehicle.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the extension housing dust deflector.

(R150 only)
(c)Turn the transmission clockwise about 45 degrees.
(d)Slide the transmission toward the rear as shown in the figure.
(e)Lower the transmission front and remove the transmission from the vehicle.
