Transmission problem

I was driving down the road and got to a stop and my truck died I started the engine put in it back in drive and it died again. every time I put it back in drive or reverse it dies again other then this the truck drives great so could you please help . I am disabled and don't have an money right now but if I can get my truck back I will see what I can come up with.
