Transmission problem

When put in drive it is stuck in third gear. I can put in second on dash to take off with but soon as I put it back in drive it goes back to third and stays there. i was told the solenoids have gone bad.

it is in limp mode. it can be a valve body, solenoids or a cracked case. have a transmission professional scan for codes.
