Car does not drive forward just reverse

This may sound like an odd thing but I would remove the battery and have it load and voltage tested, BMW's can do some odd things if they have any voltage issues. Did this just suddenly happen or has it been acting strange for a while? When was the transmission fluid serviced last? Internally a bad pressure regulator can do this as it causes seal failures on the A clutch. That leads to a rebuild.
