Transmission not working properly

Hi, car is being stupid and seems to only go into either rev or neutral. You have to give it a good sharp push on shifter to get it to park or drive and that's only if it feels like it. what could be wrong with it? Ex early holden girl but this Ford stuff has me beat.

Okay, make that not doing anything now LOL, went out to try after coming home last night and the shifter will move but does not register with transmission as stays in P and shows that on dash. Had no warning lights whatsoever.

We need to start with two things. First we need to check for codes even though you have no warning lights. The reason is, if the transmission range sensor is not seeing the shifter move then it is not going to register and the transmission will not actually move.

The second thing is to make sure the shift cable has not come off. I am thinking that we have either a shift cable issue or transmission range sensor issue.
