Transmission hesitates when accelerating uphill?

When accelerating uphill, the car has started to hesitate and somewhat stutter back-and-forth between gears (RPM meter bouncing up/down between 2 and 3 RPMs). It always responds with acceleration and never jerks forward uncontrollably. I does it more when the ECON button is on. My local mechanic advised me to have the transmission further evaluated at a dealership and said it may need replacing. I have been shopping for extended warranties because I'm thinking that an extended warranty will cost less than the cost of transmission replacement, correct? Or would that be a waste of time/money? Please help!

You would need to weigh the costs plus I think the extended warranty you must have it a length of time before you can use it. I would run the codes to see if any are stored.

This vehicle has an external transmission fluid filter which I would change.

Use genuine Honda Automatic Transmission Fluid (Type 3).
Note: Using the wrong type of ATF can affect shift quality.
