I purchased the truck listed above zr2 4.3L with automatic 4L60E transmission a while back. It had a problem with the gears slipping. Mainly it was slipping from first into second gear at first. The four wheel drive also does not work. It only slips when the truck is warming up. It runs smooth when cold. I replaced the TCC solenoid and filter but it did no good. I also noticed blow back from the transmission dipstick while checking the fluid a couple of times. Hence, the fluid was higher than normal when hot. Eventually my clutches failed and I lost reverse. I dropped the pain and as i figured there was metal in the bottom. So I purchased a rebuilt transmission from the Chevrolet dealership and installed it with no problems. And guess what. It has the same slip. Not as bad as before, like when my clutches were starting to go, but you can tell it is the same problem. And it is a completely different transmission. I am not sure where to go from here. Should I go ahead and drive it off the grand canyon? Maybe the inter-cooler? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Good evening.

Please explain what you mean by completely different transmission?

Did you flush the lines and the cooler prior to installation?

Sorry, I meant it was a rebuild and not the original. It is still a 4L60E. And I did not flush it. I did blow through the lines with a air hose to check if they were clogged. That probably is not the best thing to do though.

Sounds like whoever rebuilt it failed. Call the dealership and ask what you are supposed to do warranty wise (I am sure it has some sort of warranty). You will need to drop the transmission again and take it back to them.

It does it seem odd that is has a different 4L60E rebuilt transmission in it and it slips in the same spot? And also only when it is warm? Just like the old one?

Yes, it does. the only other thing would be programming the TCM. I doubt it will resolve it as slipping is a mechanical issue.

1-2 slips are pretty common in automatic transmissions. So the fact that you got another one with the same issue is not terribly surprising to me at least. I would still think that someone messed up when they did the rebuild and did not put in a new clutch pack.
