Transmission function limited warning light turned on

This model isn't offered in the US, so my technical info is very limited. However, have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition? Also have you had the computer scanned to identify diagnostic trouble codes?

I realize most people don't own a scanner, but since the light was on, there should be diagnostic trouble codes stored in the system that will help point us in the right direction.

I have to be honest, this sound like you have a transmission speed sensor, for the input shaft, which is going bad, but the only thing we can do to be sure is check for codes..

First thing we need to do is check for codes. If you have codes then we can chase that down. However, just from what you are describing it sounds like you have a possible valvebody or electrical issue.

Normally when a vehicle goes into limp in but does not do it repeatedly it was a sensor "glitch" and may never happen again. However, once it happens a second time, it is time to get serious about figuring it out because it is only going to get worse.

Let's start with the codes that could still be stored in the computer and we can go from there.

Hi, I called the AA and they plugged in the computer thingy and it came up with no fault codes.

So if there are no codes, then the computer cleared them due to seeing the proper amount of "good" trips. This means it saw an issue and turned the light on. Then it makes normally 5 good trips and it clears the code because it is not seeing the same issue any more.

How often does the issue at the stop light that you described happen? Is that something that you can reproduce easily?

It happens a lot. Also sometimes when I put into reverse the car shudders and feels like I'm pushing brake on and off.

Have you checked the fluid level and condition? The shudder could be related to a pressure issue.
