Transmission flush instructions needed

Hi Jon,

I answered the last post. To perform a flush will require a transmission flush machine. It connects to the cooling lines on the transmission supply and return lines. Most of these machines basically refill the transmission with new fluid (via the return line) while the supply line is discharged into the machine via the transmission pump (while the vehicle is running). I don't know if you have access to one?

As far as my specifications are showing, the system holds a total of 8.6 quarts.

Automatic Trans-axle Fluid

Capacity .................... 8.60 qt (8.14L)

You are very welcome. Just one more thought I want to add. Since the fluid has never been changed in 150,000 miles, if it is extremely dirty or have a burnt smell to it, changing the fluid can (not always) cause the transmission to slip. If you are concerned, let me know the fluid's condition.

Will do. We will only be flushing the fluid by draining from the drain plug.

Okay. That is a drain and fill. Please note that if you drain the pan, you are not removing all the fluid. It will not take 8.6 qts to refill.

I definitely will. I checked the transmission oil on the dipstick and it was dark but no bad odor. Specs say we will need about 3.2 quarts of new fluid.

So, I bought the correct transmission fluid and performed the change. It was really easy, the old fluid was somewhat dark but no noticeable odor. transmission definitely runs smoother.

Hello, I'm Danny.

I know you've already performed the service but just want to add my 2 cents.By not removing the transmission pan after draining from the plug you are leaving in the old,used,dirty filter. It is always recommended to change the filter when replacing the fluid.This is also a problem when going to a quickie lube place and just having a flush performed it keeps the old filter in place.Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
