Hello everyone. I'm not well versed on cars so ber with me.
I've had some issues with my Mazda3 engine dropping or sputtering when accelerating from a stopped position. It did fine when I was on the highway though. It also seemed to shake a bit but, other than that, no other indications that something was wrong..
I initially thought it was the fuel pump again. We had it replaced back in March for similar performance issues. Took it back to the dealership last week and came back with a diagnosis of internal coolant leak where the transmission fluid and coolant are mixing. Also got a lovely a quote for $6,844.00 worth of repairs.
$817.00 for radiator replacement.
$327.00 for replacement of thermostat.
$5,553.00 for replacement of transmission.
$75.00 for coolant.
$162.00 for transmission fluid.
I had my boyfriend check it out and the coolant reservoir it's this pink color so seems like this is definitely the case from what I've seen online.
My question is, is it really necessary to replace the transmission or was the dealership just tacking on a transmission replacement unnecessarily? I'm reading I could probably get by with a radiator replacement and a transmission flush. Is this true?
