How to change the transmission fluid?

So.. the oil pan bolts torque to the case is 69 inch pounds then?

Yes, it is does not require too much of torque.

I purchased Super Tech DEXTRON - VI ATF and it says its suitable for Toyota WS. I think I am okay with this fluid since the bottle says that it is suitable for cars calling for Toyota WS fluid. What do you think? Also has there been any problems with changing the fluid on a car with 115,000 miles like my XB when it has never been done before since it was new? I have heard that changing the original fluid might cause problems rather than just leaving the dirty fluid in.

Yes, this fluid should be fine as it it compatible with the Toyota WS.

I have not heard shifting issues with a Scion transmission drain and fill.

I have a felt type of gasket material and do not want to use any FIPG. Do you think just using the gasket (which is a felt type of material) only will work just fine and result in no leaks? Can you provide any information on the filter bolts torque or specific procedures for mounting the filter itself in this SCION XB?I believe there is a small metal ring also to seal the filter. I have never seen that before so that is why I'm asking. Thanks.

In an ideal world using just the gasket should be sufficient to prevent leaks. However, it is best to use a sealant with the gasket to ensure no leaks.
Scion does not provide torque specs for the filter bolts. I have usually firsthand tighten those bolts all the way then do half a turn. That typically takes care of it. Typically, on bolts of that nature I like to use a smaller ratchet like a 1/4" one to prevent over torquing.

Yes, there is an o-ring on the filter. I just saw it after I posted since the new filter was in the plastic. I think the metal washer/ring is a new one provided for the drain plug. Thanks for your advice. I was actually wondering if Scion specified FIPG or something on the gasket in the factory service manual procedures. I agree with what you said about the gasket and sealer though. If Scion does not specify FIPG or something to add to the gasket to seal it, do you have an experienced recommendation for the kind of sealant to use. I really like the OEM FIPG for oil valve covers etc. What do you think?

I personally like to get OEM when it is available. The Toyota 103 FIPG works well on just about all of the oil pan gaskets.
