Are all ATF transmission fluids the same? I that what is requested when purchasing?

Definitely not. There are about a dozen different fluids and you can only use the one the manufacturer requires.
For your vehicle it is Type ATF T-IV
There are some synthetic brands that can be used to cover many different type. Just make sure it meets those requirements.

I believe it is Dexron +IV.
