Transmission fitment

Hi, this is going to be an odd question so I will do my best to explain. I have a hatchback model that I am putting a new engine and transmission in it. I have put a new cross member in for the engine and it bolts right in, but when I put the engine and transmission in, the transmission is too long and it seems like a really tight fit. I do not know what I should do to make everything match up.
My initial thought was to move the cross member forward but I am worried it will really mess up the steering geometry of the car. Any thoughts?

Is the engine and transmission the same as what you removed? sounds as if it may be from a different model as it should slot straight in.

The new engine and transmission are both Subaru but are from a different car. Both the engine and transmission are different models then what was originally in the car.

I was considering using spacers between the k member and the frame to give everything some more clearance. Any obvious downsides?

Not a good thing to try and re engineer this problem, you will keep finding problems to over come and you may never come up with a final solution. I cannot see the actual problem and with this in mind I cannot advise where to go from here. I personally would stop here and look at the correct engine and transmission and sell the odd unit off. you may encounter electrical harness problems and do you know if the p is comparable with this new engine?

I was thinking the same, but I did not want to give up without exploring a couple options first. I have sorted out the electrical issues between the engine and the car.

Trouble is, this is a job that you need to see first hand so decisions can be made with the problem in front of you. With out seeing this first hand it's very hard to comment with confidence
