Transmission drain plug leaking fluid

Hi,

I see things that look like cracks, but I don't think they are. It's hard to tell from a video.

Try this: Get brake cleaner and clean everything off so it's dry. Then refill the transmission to see if you can locate the leak. Hopefully, this will help to identify where the leak is originating. I don't think anything is cracked, but it is possible.

If it is still coming from the drain plug, let me know.

Almost certain it’s from drain plug. what do I do?

Did you replace the drain plug gasket/o-ring? See pic below. Let me know if that was replaced.

I replaced the metal crush washer yes.

If you replaced the washer/gasket and it still leaks, inspect the area around the plug for evidence of cracks. Also, spray everything down so it's dry and clean. Then confirm the leak is from the drain plug. If there are cracks causing it, you should be able to see the fluid seeping through them.

how tight do I tighten new crush washer and plug?

If you look below, there are two pics that include the torque specifications. I'm not sure if the vehicle has a 4 cylinder or a 6.

The first pic shows the torque for a V6 and the second pic is for the four cylinder.

I still can’t get this transmission plug to stop leaking on my car.

If you replaced the gasket and torqued it to specification, there has to be a crack we are missing. You have confirmed the leak is from the drain plug, correct? I know you were originally questioning possible cracks.

Also, when you replaced the metal crush washer, was it only metal? You may want to try a nylon or composite washer/gasket in place of the crush washer.

I don’t know for sure if this is the crack you are referring to, but I have attached pics. please advise me on how I can repair?

So, went out to check vehicle and the bottom half of transmission bolt hole where crack looked to be is now completely broke off and, on the ground, is there a transmission pan for this car or does it come apart to where I can just replace the side where bolt goes in?

There isn't a pan. As far as the crack, that is part of the case. What I would do is this. First, you need to find someone that can weld aluminum and have that part welded back into place. Then they make "pan savers" that you can use to seal it. (See pic 1 below)

To replace that portion of the case, the transmission needs to be taken apart. I would at least try to do it this way.

I don’t know anyone who can weld and could I use an expansion plug?

You could try something like that. My biggest concern is it would come loose or if the housing has other cracks, the expansion may cause it to break more.

Without tearing the transmission apart what are my best options?

I would want the broken part welded back to the housing and then use a pan saver. I wish I had a better answer, but there really isn't.

What the heck is a pan saver?

It's what I mentioned a few posts back. I reattached the pic below. If you weld it back together, either you will need to drill and re-tap the threads or use a pan saver. It basically works like a toggle bolt. See pic below.

If the weld is done properly, the absolute best thing is to drill and re-tap the threads and use an oversized pan bolt, but the pan saver will work as well.
