Transmission damage due to diving twenty minutes with e-brake on

Hmm,

Are you experiencing problems with the transmission after have the e-brake on while driving? Or is this something the mechanic just told you when discussing the brake issue?

The most I would expect from something like this would be having to replace the burned out brake shoes for the e-brake and possibly the rear brake rotors if they were damaged.

Are you have having any problems with the transmission?

I didn't realize the e-brake was on while driving because my e-brake is down by the brake pedal. I just noticed a little drawback from the engine while driving like the car was struggling to go. I took it immediately to the mechanic and left it there.. then i went back to check on it and that is when he told me the e-bake was engaged and it damaged the transmission and now i have to get a new one.

One thing i should mention also is that when i dropped it at the mechanic his assistant attached his diagnostic equipment to my vehicle and the machine said there was a bad sensor. so i just thought that i would have to replace a sensor at least, but when i went back to check on the vehicle he said there is a bigger problem now and it is the e-brake being engaged caused the transmission to be damaged and need replaced.. What is your take?

Quite honestly I am struggling to believe that you have damaged your transmission by simply driving with the emergency brake on. Smoked brake shoes and rotors I can understand.

I would have him fix the sensor issue, and whats left of the emergency brakes ;) (have the mechanic install new shoes and possibly the brake rotors since they are probably burned as well) and then pick up your car and take it for a drive.

If you don't have any drive-ability issues with the transmission, then I would call it a day.

If you do have transmission problems afterward at least you know for sure that you need one. The price will not be any more expensive if you wait to find out for yourself.
