Where is the transmission control module located?

i cannot find the TCM module on the vehicle listed above (XR).

Good morning,

I attached the procedure for you for the control module.

If you replace it, it must be programmed to your cars VIN for it to work.

Transmission Control Module Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the center console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (See: Console > Removal and Replacement) .

2. Remove the vent duct (1).

Important: Do not damage the wiring harness.


3. Open the cable ties (1).
4. Remove the cable ties (2) from the bracket.
5. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (3).
6. Detach the wiring harness plug (4) from the transmission control module (TCM).
Release the wiring harness plug and disconnect.

7. Remove the TCM with bracket.

* Slightly pull out the TCM with bracket.
* Detach the wiring harness plug (1) from the bracket.
Release the wiring harness plug (arrow).
* Remove the TCM with bracket.

8. Detach the TCM (1) from the bracket.
Carefully push locks (arrows) outward.

Hey Roy, one more quick question. I got a used TCM does that have to be reprogrammed to my car or can I just put it in? and who can reprogram the TCM?

The old TCM is from a 2008 Saturn Astra like mine.

It must be programmed as there is a VIN number from another car in there.

Try calling local shops. Most have the scan tool for this. If not, the last resort is the dealer.

The part numbers must be exact. If they are off even by i number, it may not work.

Does the dealer need the car or can I just bring in the TCM and the VIN number?

They need the whole car.

What you could do is to install it in the dealer parking lot, then they can take the scan tool to the car and program it.
