I know this has nothing to do with the transmission. But, I only started having problems with shifting while accelerating when I changed my oil.

Here is the problem: When I go from a stop sign and accelerate, the truck jerks once in a while. But when I accelerate to 45-55 mph, the RPM is pushing 3-3 1/2. When on the freeway, going 70-80 mph, the RPM pushing 4 1/2-5. The jerking is not all the time though. And sometimes the truck shifts just fine. I am so confused

Hello,

This could be a problem with your fuel filter getting plugged. Your fuel when it gets pumped from the tank goes through a filter before it reaches the engine. When this filter starts to get plugged it will not let enough fuel through the filter at lower speeds. As the fuel pump pumps more fuel to keep up with the engine demands it will pass by this blockage and everything will run like normal.
I have included a link for you to go to down below:

Please go through this guide and get back to us with what you find out.

Thanks,

Right, but how would the RPM go up if it’s a fuel filter? Wouldn’t the truck like somewhat stall if that was the issue?

Hello again, When the RPM's go up do you have the accelerator pedal depressed?

Thanks,
Alex

Yes it’s depressed when the RPMs go up even when in cruise control as well

Does anyone have a picture of what the oil pan looks like in a 2014 Toyota Tacoma? I also want to make sure I emptied the right bin

Hello again,

Yes that is how a fuel filter acts when it is plugged. It will be restricted at lower speeds but as the volume of flow increases it will overcome the blockage and return to seemingly normal operation. I have included the diagram of your transmission oil pan in the diagrams down below.

Thanks,
Alex
