Car will not go forward or backward due to a cable under the hood coming unhooked but I do not know what the cable is called. It started after we got stuck in the mud but kept pushing the gas until we got out I do not know if we over worked the transmission or what.

the shift cable is b=probably broken and will need replacing. it is not allowing you to shift the transmission or check to see if retainer has come off there is one on steering column as well. See picture.
