Hi, I just recently bought this van and knew about the problem just trying to get an idea of what is wrong so I can fix it. It drove fine for about thirty minutes or less and then got stuck in third gear. It would not down shift at all. The check transmission soon light came on and I am just trying to avoid buying a whole new transmission if possible. My dad was the one driving and he said at first it felt like it was stuck in third gear then it felt like it was stuck in first. Would not speed up. The rpm's were high. Then the oil light came on. Checked fluids and everything was good. Any advice would help a whole lot. Thank you. Hannah.

it is in limp mode because something is wrong with transmission which can be anything. have a transmission shop look at this. it can be wiring issue or something internal.

My dad is a mechanic so I'm just trying to get an idea of what's going on so I can let him know. Do u think changing the transmission filter will help?

your dad can decide that but he should scan for codes if he is a mechanic and see what he gets. it may be time for a rebuild more than anything.
