When transmission is put into gear the car does not move

My car was running fine when I parked it and the next day I go to drive it after letting warm up and I put it in reverse and it wouldn't go . I put it in D and it wouldn't go . The same in every gear no go. It ran fine before with no problems or any signs of problems. It did get really cold the night I parked it . -8° to be exact .

First thing I would recommend checking is the fluid level in the transmission. I suspect your coolant may have frozen causing the radiator to rupture at the transmission cooler causing you to lose you transmission fluid. I would expect you to be able to see the transmission fluid in the coolant when you take the radiator cap off, most likely it would look like it has some chocolate milk in it.If this does turn out to be the problem simply changing the radiator and adding fluid to the transmission should fix your problem, usually when the transmission cooler rupture inside the radiator in this manner the transmission will not get coolant in the fluid due to the much higher pressures the transmission fluid is under.
