Dash board message said "stop car transmission hot"

Driving then a little smoke was coming from the hood, then message on dashboard said stop car transmission hot. so I stopped the car and first gear dragged into 2nd gear and drove normal once passed first gear. but car won’t reverse at all. I saw transmission fluid looked like it was splashed underneath muffler and somehow my back bumper and trunk was greasy. car was perfect before this happened.

Good morning,

It sounds like you have a leak and the fluid is going to the back of the car.

Did you verify the fluid level?

As far as no reverse, that is mechanical not electronic. If the fluid level is good and the filter is not clogged, it is an internal failure.

I would start by changing the fluid and filter. See if there is any metal in the fluid or the magnet in the pan.

Are there any codes stored? I attached a flow chart for no reverse as well.
