This sound like your ABS (anti-lock brake system or traction control system) is engaging. This sounds like one of the wheel speed sensors is not reading correct fooling the vehicle's traction control computer that vehicle is loosing traction so traction control system is causing the grinding noise. Now, if you do not feel the grinding in the brake pedal then there is probably something else.
Every repair shop charges differently on their labor rate and labor time to diagnose and repair the vehicle.
According to the labor guide I have to diagnose the ABS/traction control system is 1.0 hour. If it is the wheel speed sensor another 1.0 hour to replace and depending on where they get the part from I would guess the wheel speed sensor which is part of the front wheel bearing around the $80-100 range. So, if the shop charges a $100 dollars an hour labor would be around $200 to diagnose and replace. Totaling somewhere around $300 plus sales tax and any shop fees.
