2006 Toyota Tacoma Removing rear brake drums

I have not worked on Toyota brake drums before, and wanted to inspect the linings. I am used to American autos with the star wheel at the bottom of drum. Toyota seems to have an adjustment at the top of the drum, but I can't see in well enough to figure out how to back off the adjustment screw. It also has a second rubber plug a few inches down from the top which may have something to do with it. They are adjusted up so tight the drum won't pull loose without some release.

Hello Thanks for the donation. You need to insert a suitable tool through the hole in the rear of the backing plate and hold the automatic adjusting lever away from the adjuster. Using another suitable tool at the same time, reduce the brake shoe adjuster by turning the adjusting wheel. (((Rear brake and related components"”2005-2006)))

They are adjusted up so tight the drum won't pull loose without some release. I know what you going thru peeping in there to contract the shoes it gets tough at times

Try contracting it thru the inspection hole as possible unable to, last option is to sacrifice the brake shoes. Look in front of the drum face see if you can find 2 holes w/ threads in it- if so use correct type bolts and tighten it till the drum break loose-Have you tried banging it around with a rubber mallet to loosen it a little.
